In 2021, the European Innovative Teaching Award was successfully launched as part of the European Education Area, aiming to recognise the work of teachers (and their schools) who make an exceptional contribution to the profession. Since its creation in 2021 , almost 400 outstanding Erasmus+ projects were honoured with this prestigious award, firmly establishing its reputation.
The award is implemented in close cooperation with the network of Erasmus+ National Agencies, which play a pivotal role in identifying and selecting suitable projects in four distinct categories: Early childhood education and care, Primary education, Secondary education, and Vocational education and training schools.
Each year, the award centres around a specific theme aligned with the priorities of the European Commission. In 2024, the annual theme is "Wellbeing at school", highlighting the importance of a whole-school approach to promoting the wellbeing and mental health of both learners and educators. The annual theme connects with European Commission’s initiative Pathways to School Success and in particular the recent guidelines for policymakers, educators and school leaders aimed at addressing wellbeing and mental health.
A total of 96 projects from 32 European countries are recognized and honoured across the four categories in 2024.
The Erasmus+ National Agencies are responsible for the selection of winning projects through either a direct selection of awardees, short-listing of potential awardees, or publishing an open call. For more precise information on the selection process in your country, please consult the website of the respective National Agency.
