Wellbeing at school

Topic(s) addressed

This project addressed physical and mental health, including wellbeing. It further explored new learning and teaching methods, pedagogy and didactics.

Target group(s)

The target groups included 20 teachers, 600 students, 195 educators, families, and the larger community.

Methodologies

This project included the incorporation of multidisciplinary approaches to address students' overall wellbeing and develop their key competencies in an inclusive manner. This involved teachers combining various subjects such as technology, physical education, arts, cooking, psychology and sociology. This project emphasised the importance of linking formal and informal learning experiences. Through encouraging students to be actively engaged in their learning, the project aimed to foster a sense of agency and autonomy. Further, there was regular cooperation with external stakeholders.

Innovation environment

Teachers were encouraged to explore new ways of teaching that could engage students and enhance their learning experience. This promoted a culture of continuous development and adaptation to meet the students’ changing educational needs. By creating a supportive and inclusive environment, students felt more motivated, engaged, and connected to their learning. Teachers felt more valued, supported, and empowered to try new approaches to teaching. A comprehensive wellbeing at school action plan was focused on promoting the physical, mental and emotional wellbeing of the students and teachers.

Teachers’ role

Teachers enhanced their skills through professional training and were thus better equipped to implement an innovative approach to teaching and learning. The project fostered a culture of cooperation and peer learning among teachers and provided opportunities for educators to collaborate and support each other. This empowered the teachers' agency as innovators. The strong emphasis on the teachers' wellbeing, highlighted that educators who are fulfilled in their roles are more likely to be motivated to try new approaches in the classroom.

Impact and output

Teachers learned innovative teaching approaches and methodologies which involved using new technologies while addressing physical and mental health at school. The social and emotional environment of the school was enhanced. The wellbeing of students and teachers also increased, which had a positive impact on the larger community. Additionally, no student dropped out during the course of the project.
