Methodologies used

The project adopts forward-thinking strategies, including the creation of a comprehensive, multilingual MOOC on news literacy, training trainers to disseminate knowledge, and designing evidence-based, flexible curricula that blend online and in-person learning. It promotes active participation and the development of critical skills and key competences through tools such as interactive modules, context-specific exercises, and quizzes. These methods foster inclusive, participatory learning environments that empower adults to critically assess media content and engage as informed, active citizens.

Innovation environment

The project’s learning environments support innovation by integrating mobile-friendly MOOCs and online resource hubs accessible worldwide. These platforms enable flexible, self-paced learning, encourage peer-to-peer interaction, and incorporate multimedia and gamification to boost engagement. They foster a participatory culture that complements traditional learning, empowering learners to critically analyse media content in real-world contexts and creating dynamic, inclusive, and scalable educational settings.

Teachers’ role

Educators drive the project by acting as catalysts for innovation, designing engaging, learner-centred activities, and adapting content to meet the needs of diverse audiences. Their ongoing professional development strengthens their expertise in digital tools and teaching media literacy. By fostering peer collaboration and sharing best practices, they create reflective, inclusive, and supportive learning environments that motivate learners, nurture well-being, and build critical thinking and civic skills.

Impact and output

The project’s innovative teaching and learning processes strengthen media and news literacy, critical thinking, and civic engagement among both citizens and educators. They cultivate independent, analytical thinkers capable of identifying trustworthy information in the post-truth era, thereby enhancing democratic participation. Through a scalable MOOC and local workshops, the project generates a spill-over effect that inspires other institutions and communities to adopt similar initiatives. This lasting impact fosters more informed societies, promotes lifelong learning, and establishes a replicable model for media education across Europe - reinforcing the core values of democracy and active citizenship.
