Construction technology in transition: exchange of international best practices in the context of construction technology

Summary

The project demonstrates innovation by integrating digital tools, sustainable construction, and real-life international teamwork into secondary school education. It closely aligns with Erasmus+ priorities (inclusion, sustainability, and digitalisation), achieves measurable learning outcomes, and high levels of participant satisfaction while creating lasting institutional impact and facilitating effective knowledge dissemination.

"Denmark is a wonderful place, and my Erasmus exchange was the best experience of my life so far. I will always have fond memories of that time, and I am incredibly grateful that I was able to be there."

Target group(s)

  • 24 students, aged between 15-18, from our secondary school participated in the programme.

Methodologies used

The project turns learning into a real-life experience: students combine construction skills, digital tools (e.g., CAD) and English while working on practical, sustainable projects. In international teams, they actively solve tasks and strengthen their language, digital and social competences, with their progress documented through continuous feedback and reports. Learning happens in and beyond the classroom—through mobility, peer learning and the sharing of results at school events and online. Inclusive selection and individual support ensure participation. Students drive the process themselves, while close cooperation with EUC Nord enables authentic, practice-oriented learning.

Innovation environment

The project creates an innovation-friendly environment through strong organisation: clear roles, regular reflection and quality assurance ensure continuous improvement. A positive climate is fostered by teamwork, international exchange and shared learning experiences.

Resources are used sustainably by integrating project results into regular teaching and rethinking workshop production at our school in Vienna. A whole-organisation approach is demonstrated through knowledge transfer via conferences, presentations and school-wide dissemination. Cross-sectoral cooperation is achieved through close collaboration with our partner school, EUC Nord, and the exchange of best practices—in November 2025, 60 students from our partner school visited us.

Teachers’ role

Teachers actively drive innovation by planning the programme with the partner school and guiding students through real-life, project-based tasks. They support well-being through close supervision during mobility and individual learning support. By working with new digital tools and international methods, they expand their own skills and apply them directly in lessons. Regular team meetings, joint reflection and the sharing of experiences at conferences enable strong peer learning and ensure that new ideas are implemented in everyday teaching.

Impact and output

The project has a strong direct impact: participants improved their foreign-language, digital and intercultural competences and successfully worked in international teams.

Inclusion was ensured through targeted selection, individual support and the participation of students with fewer opportunities. The impact extends beyond the participants: results were shared at pedagogical conferences, school events and online, benefiting other students and teachers. The cooperation and knowledge transfer also strengthened the institution as a whole and contributed to its internationalisation and further development.
