Summary
“Becoming European Citizens through an Erasmus+ Web Radio" transformed a school radio into a transnational learning tool connecting Italy, Spain, Malta and Hungary. Students became active media producers, creating 18 podcasts in English on cultural and STEM topics and developing critical thinking, digital literacy and European citizenship. The project integrated innovative methodologies (gamification, podcast production and Europeana digital heritage) with real mobility experiences, leaving lasting outcomes: a collaborative web radio guide, a video tutorial, and four institutionalised school radios. It provides a replicable, sustainable model for 21st-century multilingual education.
“Watching students become confident podcast creators and active European citizens has been the greatest achievement of this project. The web radio joined 4 Nations and will continue giving voice to future generations.”

Methodologies used
The project introduced an innovative multidisciplinary approach by integrating English, STEM, digital media, cultural heritage and citizenship education through collaborative podcast production for web radio. Students became active content creators, planning, recording and publishing podcasts while developing communication, digital, intercultural and critical- thinking skills. Learning combined formal classroom activities with non-formal mobility experiences and informal peer collaboration, supported by gamification. Formative assessment was embedded through peer feedback, reflection and collaborative evaluation. Inclusion and participation were ensured by assigning meaningful roles to all learners. Cooperation with partner schools, local stakeholders and cultural institutions strengthened authentic learning and created sustainable educational outcomes.
Innovation environment
The project transformed the school into an innovative learning environment by embedding Web Radio within the curriculum and promoting collaboration. A whole-school approach engaged teachers, students and school leaders in shared planning and implementation, fostering a positive organisational climate based on participation and creativity. Shared digital tools minimised paper use, while tree planting at the final dissemination event reinforced environmental responsibility and created a lasting green legacy. The project also created lasting educational resources, including four school radios and a collaborative guide. Cross-sectoral cooperation with European partner schools, cultural organisations and local stakeholders enriched learning experiences and ensured the project's long-term impact and transferability.
Teachers’ role
Teachers acted as innovators by redesigning learning through collaborative web radio activities, podcast production and international project-based activities. They facilitated student-centred learning and encouraged creativity, critical thinking and active participation, while fostering an inclusive and supportive environment that promoted confidence and wellbeing. Through Erasmus+ mobilities and transnational cooperation, teachers strengthened their digital, linguistic and pedagogical competences, integrating innovative methodologies such as gamification and the use of digital heritage resources. Continuous peer learning, co-planning and the exchange of good practices among partner schools ensured sustainable innovation and lasting professional development.
Impact and output
The project generated measurable benefits for the direct participants: students developed autonomy, teamwork, public speaking and media production skills, while teachers gained confidence in integrating digital and collaborative methodologies into everyday teaching. Special attention was given to learners with fewer opportunities by ensuring accessible activities, differentiated tasks and equal participation in international and local project work. The impact extended beyond the project through school-wide dissemination, teacher training, public podcast publication and community events, engaging families, local organisations and over 1,200 students, while encouraging the adoption of web radio as a sustainable educational practice.
