Summary

EOI Castelló, with 40 years’ experience and winner of the 2025 National Innovation Award bases its teaching method on life skills. Pioneers in distance learning and the piloting of the e-PEL programme, in the integration of AI, and committed to sustainability. Our model, available in 11 languages, fosters learning, independence and active citizenship, whilst ensuring an international outlook that broadens minds and drives social change and inclusion by bringing together European values.

Erasmus+ has opened doors to the internationalisation of our school, creating synergies with other European countries and raising awareness of the programme’s core principles.

Topic(s) addressed

  • Literacy (12 languages)
  • Active citizenship (European values, mediation)
  • Inclusion
  • Digital competence (AI, digital literacy, distance learning)
  • Sustainability and
  • Independent learning (life skills)

Target group(s)

  • Pupils (aged 14 and over)
  • Teaching staff at the EOI Castelló
  • Trainers from other stages (the PIALP programme) and
  • Members of the public

Methodologies used

A multidisciplinary and active approach:

  • Digitalisation: Use of e-PEL, Web 2.0/AI tools for collaborative learning, and information sessions on the digital tools used at the school.
  • Active learning: PIIE (EOIRadio CS), which acts as a vehicle for non-formal learning that complements classroom instruction and serves as a catalyst for mediation and the development of emotional intelligence.
  • Inclusion and cooperation: school-wide cultural activities, treasure hunts and the ‘language passport’ (40th anniversary) that encourage the whole community to participate in the teaching process.

Innovation environment

A holistic approach to education and a commitment to the environment: members of the Xarxa CeSCa network, with 112 solar panels and LED lighting that achieves 80 per cent energy savings. We promote self-reliance through face-to-face, blended, distance learning and self-study media libraries. The positive atmosphere stems from our social openness and ongoing cultural activities: our 40th anniversary celebrations in the Plaza Mayor, cookery, theatre and dance workshops, the European Day of Languages, Europe Day, Erasmus Days, and European Week for Waste Reduction. The school radio station promotes communication, inclusion and well-being. This environment fosters a strong and lasting sense of internationalism.

Teachers’ role

Thanks to Erasmus+ mobility programmes, internal cooperation and peer learning have helped to professionalise the management of diverse and safe learning environments. Teachers act as catalysts, applying new digital and social methodologies that ensure the success of adult learners, particularly those with learning difficulties. Continuing professional development abroad in fields such as AI, educational applications and digitalisation enables teachers to lead processes of genuine inclusion, managing classroom diversity with sensitivity and effectiveness. This teaching excellence is the cornerstone that transforms every international mobility programme into a structural and lasting change in teaching methods.

Impact and output

We have achieved a lasting impact by promoting the continuous improvement of our teaching staff and students in the use of new technologies and AI applied to language learning. Furthermore, the programme’s multiplier effect was immense following the 40th anniversary celebrations (Plaza Mayor), with extensive coverage in the press and on social media. Mobility schemes consolidate a permanent network of innovation, enabling both teaching staff and students to optimise their digital skills, thereby ensuring autonomy and critical thinking in learning and in real life. This legacy ensures educational excellence in both the short and long term.
