Accredited project for mobility of learners and staff in school education

Summary

The project was awarded the European Innovative Teaching Award in recognition of its integration of inclusive, student-centred teaching methodologies. It also placed strong emphasis on international collaboration, encouraging both teachers and students from different countries to work together and raise awareness of the value of linguistic and cultural diversity.

“When everyone belongs and every language matters – the future begins.”

Topic(s) addressed

  • Inclusive education
  • Student-centred teaching methodologies
  • Supporting ethnic minorities and regional dialects
  • Interdisciplinary learning and collaboration

Target group(s)

Seven teachers and 20 students, including four with fewer opportunities.

Methodologies used

The project introduced inclusive, student-centred methodologies that combined experiential learning with international teacher exchanges and reflective practices. The selected participants came from bilingual classes (English - Lithuanian and German - Lithuanian), providing students with the opportunity to use multiple languages during lessons. Guided by their teachers, students prepared presentations about their countries and took part in multilingual activities. The OLS digital tool was used to support language learning, while teachers designed special lessons focusing on language acquisition, critical thinking, and collaboration.

Innovation environment

The project’s learning environments were adapted to promote experimentation and inclusivity. Our gymnasium already stands out in the region by offering instruction in more than five foreign languages and providing specialised literature classes. This foundation made it well-suited for implementing the project’s bilingual teaching approach, in which students engaged in a variety of collaborative tasks. The learning process was facilitated by teachers and supported by digital tools, creating an environment that encouraged active participation and creativity.

Teachers’ role

Teachers actively took part in lesson planning and reflected on their project activities throughout the process. Their involvement in this international collaboration contributed to continuous professional development, allowing them to explore and apply new teaching methods, particularly those that highlight the importance of linguistic and cultural diversity. They also had the opportunity to develop their own language skills in new environments, practise innovative methodologies, and share experiences with their international colleagues.

Impact and output

The project resulted in enhanced student engagement, improved inclusivity, and stronger collaboration among teachers across countries. It also provided meaningful opportunities for participants from disadvantaged backgrounds to take part, helping them develop their language skills and build confidence. All participants gained valuable competences such as communication, creativity, and critical thinking. The project empowered educators to effectively integrate student-centred practices and digital tools into their teaching. In addition, participants developed greater tolerance and empathy and learned to appreciate cultural differences.
